AAAHHHAAAA!!!!! yeahh ..actually this is how i scream when anybody including me fall sick at my home ...I am sorry to say but in America there is a solution to everything but, god forbid if you fall sick there is just no solution.......The terms and conditions of health insurance companies are even complicated than immigration law terms.
The whole exercise starts primarily from choosing your health insurance there is a whole avalanche of companies offering same services, selecting one is the most daunting task...as each and every company commits they are the best and offering cheapest services, but as you read the terms and policy carefully you end up realising all policies are same. But using your smart instincts and even your sixth sense we end up choosing an insurance hoping this one covers everything as said by the agents.
Now starts your insurance plans and you feel relaxed knowing, finally you are FULLY covered under health insurance. You end up paying around 250-300$ per month for no reason and with god's grace if everybody is fine at home then you usually do not need any medical attention, quite often so paying big bucks for nothing OR you can say for hoping you will fall sick one day and will need these services (WHICH ACTUALLY NEVER HAPPENS COS NOBODY WANTS TO FALL SICK EVER)and, then one fine day you fall sick and need doctors attention...this is where actual thrill starts, because as you are under new insurance you have to now select your Doctor from the list given by the insurance agents. After shortlisting 6 to 9 Doctors from the list you start calling and keep asking if they are accepting new patients and if you are lucky probably 3 or 4 doctor will say YES... they are accepting ...YIPPPPIIEE...now you ask for appointment date ....there is a 2 months wait...YES!! 2 months wait, you read it correct, very reverentially the receptionist says the earliest date available is after 2 months....i usually double check that because i feel their is some mistake but their is no mistake...she actually said that..after this long exercise half of your problem is already is gone..
Now you finally wait for appointment date and go visit a doctor, after checking you there is no ways Doctor will let you go without prescribing 1 or 2 tests , so go to lab and get tests assuming that you are fully covered under insurance..the biggest shock comes after 1 month when you receive you bill at home and you end up paying more than 1000$dollars because your insurance company will say the tests which doctor prescribed, only those tests were not covered in your insurance ..congratulations..
Honestly, i have been here for more than 2 years now and till date i am unable to understand what is covered and what insurance plans we should go for and important things to take into consideration before buying health insurance, so that i can get the best value for my bucks, if you have the answer to this..PLEASE DO SHARE..
